Out of the Chepstow Gloom: For Wales at Last (Potter's Corner's Welsh Grand National)

Potter's Corner Wins the Coral sponsored Welsh Grand National at last, for Wales.

Not since 1965 has a Welsh horse won the Welsh Grand National, until now, December 2019.

Despite a dark gloomy day with perpetual drizzle, at the Monmouthshire course, Ogmore based trainer Christian Williams, and a Welsh syndicate of owners, including Scarlets Rugby player Jonathan Davies, and Welsh jockey Jack Tudor, raised the roof of the Chepstow stands as Potters Corner cleared the last and to the finish.

May actually be uniquely historical as all three hail from Wales.

Artists David Dent has captured the final fence action. From left to right emerging from the gloom, enhanced by the headlights of a following official vehicle, are:
Now McGinty, Arthur's Gift, previous year's winner Elegant Escape, Rathlin Rose, Pobbles Bay, Trucker's Lodge, Prime Venture, Potter's Corner, Yala Enki, and The Two Amigos.

A stunning image of jumps racing at its most courageous, as mud splattered wet horses, silks and leather are steaming as they emerge from the gloom. The atmosphere, action movement & dramatic Chepstow backdrop just visible in the bands of drizzle moving slowly across the course are captured in a passionate tribute to the horses, the racecourse and the importance of the occasion by David Dent who is also Welsh of course.

The oil on canvas measures 40 inches x 40 inches and has many multiple traditional glazes to enhance the gloom of the day. So a great deal of artist work.
